As you can see, we are still in the process of completing our project. We have owned our 1880 victorian since 1973 and have renovated the interior and painted the exterior once before. This time since it was looking very shabby, we decided to give it a whole different look. We added a gable trim and a wrought iron window box below the kitchen window on the second floor. Our spring project this year was to replace all the old painted plastic shutters on the house. They were starting to fade and crack. Last year my wife and I decided it was time to remodel the exterior of our house. We needed a new roof, and decided to change the color from brown to estate grey. We also had white vinyl trim installed over the existing yellow wood trim. That was the easy part. Finding the right color shutters to compliment the new trim and roof was much more difficult than we expected. We went to every home improvement store within a 100 mile radius, but were unsuccessful in finding the color, and assorted size shutters that we wanted. May 2, 2002 a tornado hit Jackson TN destroying much of the old downtown. Madison county was hit by grapefruit size hail causing severe damage a large number of homes. Our home had the roof and gutters destroyed, all the north and west windows and the siding was damaged and had to be replaced. Almost every home in Madison Co. had major damage resulting in no available local contractors. My wife and I with our son's help on college breaks removed and replaced all the siding (1050 pieces) all the north and west window. This took about 16 months working every weekend and afternoon during that time.

Last week October 15 we installed the last APM (now Accent Building Products) shutter completing the exterior work. During our repair we upgraded the house with Hardiplank siding, metal clad windows and APM musket brown colored shutters. The shutters installed so easy and the color we picked was the key to pulling the three colors of the siding, roof and trim together. We have had many compliments on the result. Great Product and the color matched the samples exactly. The process for ordering was so painless. I ordered color samples then placed the internet order and received exactly what I ordered. The installation using the color matched pegs went smoothly and adjustments was a matter of a slight whack with the rubber hammer. The shutters were really the final piece that made the house jump out. We have people driving around on weekends and it is not uncommon to see someone stopped in the street admiring our home. Our experience with APM (now Accent Building Products) was great - correctly billed, correctly shipped and the quality product advertised.

We removed all the old wooden shutters, painted the old home and replaced the old shutters with the new green ones. I installed them myself, it was not that difficult. The hardest part was the measurements to get them leveled. It took about three hours to install them. The dramatic difference the shutters made was incredible.
